
Saturday night's concert on the campus of Amherst College will feature an exciting evening with Barynya.


Barynya is a unique group of world-class musicians, singers and dancers. They were trained and have performed with the Moiseev Dance Company, Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company, Don Cossacks of Rostov, Andreev State Symphonic Balalaika Orchestra, Moscow State Center of "Russkaya Pesnya", Ensemble of Black Sea Navy Dancers, Riverdance, Moscow Folk Ballet and New Jersey Ballet.
Barynya plays traditional Russian instruments: balalaika, garmoshka, gusli, lozhki, kugikly, treshotki and vertushki. They take the stage in colorful costumes: "sarafans", "rubashkas", "sapogis" and "kosovorotkas". Their program will include Russian and Cossacks dances, folk songs and virtuoso balalaika pieces, domra and garmoshka music.
