Pastors Mark and Amy Pitton

Mark and Amy were called to ministry here at Bethany in the summer of 2002. They were called as Co-Ministers, each sharing the care and leadership of the congregation.

Even though neither allows the other to claim to be the boss, they both agree that they have different skills and areas of responsibility. Amy ministers in the Sunday School, Youth Group, Confirmation Class, administration, and staff oversight. Mark ministers through outreach, mission, prayer chain, adult education, and hospital visitation. They share preaching and worship leadership, usually switching back and forth who does what each week. The more planning and detail work something needs, Mark likes Amy to do it. Amy likes Mark to take things that are more spontaneous or uncertain. They insist that "rock, paper or scissors is how they settle most disputes.

They like to be called Mark and Amy, have fond memories of being called Rev Mark or Rev Amy from a missionary relationship in Jamaica, but seem to let the other one answer to "Rev. Pitton if work is involved.

As humans, they are glad they are married (to each other). They met in Seminary (Andover Newton Theological School). They worked in separate churches in Connecticut for three years before working as co-associate ministers in Rutland, Vermont. They have children who treat them pretty well, but like them to be at their soccer and lacrosse games. If not watching sports or working, Mark is happy doing very little although kayaking, cooking, baking, computer games, reading (Fantasy/SciFi) all run a close second. Amy seems happiest when she is doing a lot, from reading (trashy romance and popular mechanics), decorating, talking, renovating, moving furniture, talking, sewing, knitting, talking, and complaining about the laundry. When it comes to TV, CSI, West Wing, and The Daily Show are their common favorites.

To talk to either one, call the church office 223-2424. Amy is in Monday through Thursday and Mark is in Tuesday through Friday. Links to email them are: or .
